As soon as the weather would permit I started work on the garden, creating vegetable beds and mowing the site at least once a week in the hope of eventually getting rid of the nettles, thistles and brambles. A contractor came on site with earth-moving equipment to sculpt the site, helping create a lawn in spiral form, and also a spiral canal.
